Why Support DBU Patriot Baseball?

DBU has the opportunity to fulfill its mission to develop servant leaders and reach people for Christ through the sport of baseball. But why should you support DBU Baseball? Here are seven reasons how your support can make the difference.

·         Youth activities. Our vision takes baseball to the community to touch the lives of children through baseball clinics, camps, and special games, and gives high school youth role models and supports their educational dreams.
·         Leadership development. Baseball develops athletes of character and excellence, the profile student athlete who DBU seeks — Christian servant leaders, committed students, academic achievers, with athletic talent, and a passion for serving Christ and others.
·         Christian witness. As our players compete against the nation's top players and are viewed by people across the country, each one has the opportunity to put his Christian faith into action — to portray servant leadership on baseball fields across the U.S.
·
·         Recruiting success
o   Students — DBU Baseball is a key program to draw quality students to the University's Christ-centered studies, enhance the quality of life for students, and increase community interest and support for the University as a whole.
o   Players — Our NCAA Division I standing gives us the opportunity to recruit the best Christian players, young men who want to play for a winning team that gives them the chance to pit their skills against worthy challengers.

·         NCAA advantage. DBU Baseball is a member of the NCAA Division I, which allows us to compete against top players and teams nationwide.

·         Team success. The Patriots win games against the nation's top-ranked programs, attracting fans and supporters to their games.

·         Community involvement. DBU Baseball offers the community at large
a college team with Christian integrity and values, one that promotes winning in life as well as winning the game.

As the DBU Patriots contend with top collegiate teams, now is the time to uphold them and the DBU mission by providing the needed academic, facilities, program, and services support. Find out how to contribute today!

The 2008-2009 Co-Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year, McGowen was recently selected to the All-Heartland Conference First Team, for his play in conference action this season.

His best performance of the year came against UT-Permian Basin when he recorded 18 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Kayla Marshall
Cheerleading

Kayla Marshall is the Female Athlete Spotlight for the month of March.  Marshall is a junior from Garland, Texas and is a member of the 2009-2010 Patriot Cheerleading Squad.

Marshall is a graduate from Dallas Christian School in Garland, Texas and is currently in her second year at DBU as a Patriot Cheerleader.  She has excelled both on the court as a cheerleader and in the classroom as a student.  Her performances have granted her the opportunity to graduate early with a bachelor degree in psychology in August of 2010 to begin her career as a Children’s Minister.

While at DBU, Kayla has had a heart for serving the community.  She has given her time and efforts as an avid contributor in the local community by serving in the children’s ministry at both the Fellowship First Baptist Church in Royce City, Texas, and New Liberty Baptist Church in Garland, Texas for the past two years.

Marshall has also participated in many community service projects with the Patriot Cheerleaders including partnering with First Baptist Church in Canton, Texas to provide child care for a local women’s ministry, participating in the DFW Greet the Troops program, and conducting cheerleading clinics while on the DBU Global Sports Mission Initiative mission trip to Seoul, South Korea in 2009.

“Kayla has been a great contributor to the Patriot Cheer Team.  She has served as a base and a back-spot and has excelled in both roles for a stunt group.  Kayla has the heart of a servant; she is using her love for children as a ministry for the Lord.  Seeing her serve with the team at different service projects has been such a blessing.  Her love and sweet spirit are contagious and bless everyone she comes in contact with.  Kayla will be missed in this upcoming year, but we have been grateful to have her part of the team these last two years,” said Head Cheer Coach Skyla Alvarado.
