Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team defeated Washington State University, 13-4, in Pullman, Washington on Monday evening. After scoring eight runs in the first inning, the Patriots never looked back as they captured their eighth win of the season, improving to 8-4 overall.

Senior Brandon Williamson picked up his second win of the season for the Patriots, improving to 2-0. Williamson went six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, while striking out four. Junior Taylor Massey earned his first save of the season, relieving Williamson in the seventh, and pitching three flawless innings in which he only allowed one hit while striking out five batters.

DBU accumulated five hits in the first inning, chasing the Cougars' starter from the mound. Sophomore Austin Elkins led off the game with a double, followed by a walk from Senior Tyler Robbins. Senior Jason Krizan brought home the first three Patriot runs with his first homerun of the season, giving DBU a 3-0 lead.

With the bases cleared, Junior Joel Hutter drew a walk followed by a single from both Junior Ryan Behmanesh and Sophomore Duncan McAlpine to load the bases. Junior Kenny Hatcher was hit by a Cougar pitch, pushing another run across the plate and making it 4-0.

Junior Landon Anderson then delivered a two-RBI single to right center, scoring McAlpine and Behmanesh. After a wild pitch advanced both Patriot runners, Senior Josh Wilson drew the third walk of the inning, loading the bases with no outs, and forcing a Cougar pitching change.

Bret DeRooy came in for the Cougars in an effort to stop the bleeding, eventually getting out of the inning after allowing only one more Patriot run to score.

Washington State made it an 8-3 game after scoring one run in each of the first three innings. Brett Jacobs homered to lead off the first and Matt Argyropoulos scored the third run with his solo shot to left center in the third inning.

The Patriot bats went back to work in the fifth, scoring four more runs on three hits. Anderson blasted his first homerun of the season to lead off the inning, and Krizan reached safely on a WSU error to score the second run. Hutter's sacrifice fly made it an 11-3 game, and Krizan scored on yet another WSU error to give DBU a commanding 12-3 lead.

After a Cougar run in the bottom half of the inning, Anderson's score on a passed ball in the top of the sixth added another run to the Patriots' side of the board, leaving DBU with a 13-4 lead.

Massey came on in the top of the seventh, retiring the side in 1-2-3 order. The junior made quick work of the Cougars in the eighth and ninth, picking up his fifth strikeout to end the game.

The Patriots will face Washington State in a rematch tomorrow evening. The first pitch in Pullman is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
