Patriots Shutout by Red Raiders

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Patriots (34-15) were shutout by Texas Tech (28-24) Tuesday afternoon at Patriot Field as DBU was only able to muster six hits off Red Raider pitching. Combined with four errors on defense, which led to four unearned runs, DBU fell 5-0 and ended a six-game winning streak. Jay Calhoun (3-2) was saddled with the loss after he gave up four hits and a walk in 2.2 innings while Ben Flora (1-0) picked up his first win on the season after throwing six innings of three-hit baseball. DBU will return to action Friday night as they head to Omaha, Nebraska to take on Creighton in a three-game series.

Texas Tech scored all five of their runs in the second, third, and fourth innings as each DBU infielder accounted for an error at some point in those frames. Three of those errors came in the fourth inning as Texas Tech scored two runs on one hit and essentially put the game away as the Patriot offense sputtered through nine innings, their second straight Tuesday game of little offense following a 3-0 win in Arlington against UTA last week.

Aaron Gilbreath threw 2.1 innings without allowing an earned run as did Jake Johansen and Tyler Rockafellow recorded the final five outs without allowing a hit.

After a practice day Wednesday, DBU will head to the home of the College World Series to play Creighton at TD Ameritrade Stadium in Omaha. All three games will be broadcast live on the Patriot Broadcasting Network.
