Baseball Serves in Curacao Through GSMI Program

On October 4, 2015, the DBU Baseball Team traveled to the island of Curacao to take part in the DBU Global Sports Mission Initiative, representing Dallas Baptist University overseas.  Below is a day-by-day account of  the team's mission trip to Curacao, featuring video recaps from each day.

Day One
The Dallas Baptist Baseball Team arrived in Curacao today, as they began their five-day mission trip through the Global Sports Mission Initiative program.  After departing from DFW Airport at 5 a.m. this morning, the team landed in Curacao around 2:00 p.m.

The Patriots' first stop this afternoon was at the Isla Oil Refinery, where the players, coaches, and staff will stay this week.  The refinery houses several barracks and is located just off the banks of the Caribbean Sea.

Following a team orientation, many members of the DBU Baseball Team played a pick-up baseball game on the barracks' tennis courts with Little League players from the countries of the Dominican Republic and Aruba, who were also staying at the barracks this weekend.

The team was then treated to dinner on the barracks before they departed for a Sunday night worship service at the Abundant Grace Church in Willemstad, the nation's capital city.  In a service that featured praise music sung in both English and Papiamento, the common language spoken in Curacao, it was truly amazing to see people from two different cultures come together to worship the Lord.  Chris Holloway, DBU's Director of Global Missions, also delivered a message to the congregation detailing the team's mission trip this week.

Following a time of fellowship with the members of Abundant Grace Church, the team returned to the barracks to conclude the day's journey.  Tomorrow, the team is scheduled to hold two baseball clinics and will play a game versus a local team from Curacao at 8:00 p.m.

Dallas Baptist junior Camden Duzenack recaps the team's second day in Curacao, sharing how the team worked two baseball clinics today.  Hear about the impact that was made spiritually and on the baseball diamond through each clinic.  CLICK HERE to watch Camden Duzenack's video recap.

The Patriots also faced the Curacao National Team and came away with a 2-2 tie.  Matt Duce ripped a two-run double to provide the offense, while Sean Stutzman, Gavin Fritz, Jordan Martinson, and Seth Elledge each tossed two shutout innings on the mound.

Tomorrow, the DBU Baseball Team is scheduled to hike a mountain in the morning, work a baseball clinic in the afternoon, and visit a children's hospital.

Day Three - CLICK HERE to watch Justin Wall's video recap.
Dallas Baptist senior Justin Wall recaps the team's third day in Curacao.  Hear about the team's early morning hike up Mount Christoffel, their service at Siloam Children's Hospital for terminally ill children, along with their work at a baseball clinic and an afternoon of swimming in the clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Beyond the game of baseball, the Lord has been at work through the team's efforts this week.  Today, a young teenager accepted Christ as his Savior following the team's baseball clinic.

Tomorrow, the DBU Baseball Team is scheduled to work with the children of Abundant Grace Church in Willemstad during Vacation Bible School.  The Patriots will also hold their fourth baseball clinic of the week before they take the diamond against the Curacao National Team later that night.

Day Four - CLICK HERE to watch Tim Millard's video recap.
Dallas Baptist sophomore Tim Millard recaps the team's fourth day in Curacao.  Listen to Tim talk about the time spent with over 70 kids at the Abundant Grace Church during Vacation Bible School, as well as the team's fourth baseball clinic of the week.  In addition to their time working with Abundant Grace Church this week, the team also helped to donate over $600 to the church.  On the diamond, the Patriots fell 4-0 to the Curacao National Team.

Tomorrow, the DBU Baseball Team is scheduled to visit Caracas Bay for a sailboat ride and snorkeling.  The team will also visit Punda for an afternoon of sightseeing.  The Patriots will wrap-up their trip with the final game versus the Curacao National Team tomorrow night at 7:00 pm (CST).

Day Five - CLICK HERE to watch David Martinelli's video recap.
DBU junior David Martinelli recaps the team's fifth and final day in Curacao.  Listen to David talks about their morning spent on a sailboat and snorkeling in Caracas Bay.  The team also visited Punda and Rif Fort for an afternoon of sightseeing.  On the diamond, the Patriots tied the Curacao National Team 7-7.

Looking back on the team's five-day visit to Curacao, it has been amazing to see how God has used this team's talents to bring glory to him through the game of baseball.  Working alongside the people of Abundant Grace Church has also been a great blessing to both the people of Curacao, as well as the team.

The DBU Baseball Team  is scheduled to leave Curacao early Friday morning and arrive back home in Dallas in the late afternoon.
