DBU's Colin Poche was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 14th round of the 2016 Major League Draft today.  Poche, a redshirt-junior from Flower Mound, Texas, was the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year after going 9-1 on the mound with a 2.38 ERA in 16 starts.  It marks the second time in Poche's career that his name has been called in the MLB Draft, as he was a fifth round selection of the Baltimore Orioles out of Flower Mound Marcus High School in 2012.   

Poche, who transferred to DBU in 2015 from the University of Arkansas, has compiled a 15-2 record in his three seasons at the collegiate level.  After redshirting last year, Poche burst onto the scene as the Patriots' Friday night starter this year and garnered First Team All-MVC honors, was named to the MVC All-Tournament Team, and became the first pitcher in DBU baseball history to earn National Pitcher of the Week accolades after striking out 14 batters against Missouri State on May 13.

With Poche going in the 14th round to Arizona, the lefty becomes the first player from DBU taken by the Diamondbacks since former Patriot pitcher, Jordan Meaker, was selected in the 20th round of the 2008 MLB Draft.  Poche also becomes the 35th player selected in the Major League Draft since Dan Heefner became the head coach at DBU in 2008 and joins teammates David Martinelli and Darick Hall as the first three Patriots selected in this year's MLB Draft.  Martinelli was drafted in the sixth round by the Phillies, while Hall also went in the 14th round to the Phillies.
