The Patriots from Dallas Baptist University played their first regular season game tonight when they traveled to Lawton, Oklahoma, to take on Cameron University. CU won the game 84-82, which gives them a 1-0 record, while DBU fell to 0-1.
The game was back and forth all night with DBU leading most of the way. The Patriots led 45-40 at half-time and had a 10 point lead with nine minutes left in the game. CU however made a run to cut the lead to one point with seven seconds left in the game leaving them an opportunity to take the last shot for the victory. Aggie guard Matt Reid dribbled the length of the court with the clock ticking down and released a three pointer while the buzzer was going off to clinch the victory for the Aggies.
DBU, who shot 52% from the field and 58% from the three point line on the night, watched the game slip right out of their hands. The Patriots were led by Juniors Dwight Coleman and Nick Michels. Coleman, went 10-15 from the field, grabbed five rebounds, and scored a season high 27 points, while Michels added 19 points and four assists.
The Patriots will look for their first win of the year on Saturday, November 18, when they take on Howard Payne University in their first home game of the early season. The game which falls on DBU's annual homecoming will begin at 7:00 in the Burg.
