DBU Athletic Performance

VISION: To positively affect everyone that walks through our doors.
To commit ourselves to a purpose that is truly deserving of our time, energy, and resources…people. The most important asset of our program are its people. We are devoted to developing people physically, spiritually, mentally, and culturally. Athletics, Strength and Conditioning in particular is our platform to do so. Strength and Conditioning allows us to help individuals and teams achieve things (goals) that they wouldn't be able to achieve on their own.

MISSION: The constant pursuit of sport mastery.
Our training programs will be specifically designed for the sport at hand and will be systematically implemented with a student-athlete centered approach meant to train and develop the student-athletes to their fullest potential. In order for the sportsmen to optimize their capacity and steadily realize improvements in sport, we must ensure that their physical preparedness can support the desired increase in sport form. Our goal is to lay the groundwork and development of physical preparedness to serve as the base physical layer for the further perfection of sport. Our directive will be completed through the continual effort of the performance team to perfect the training process, as well as, consistent athlete empowerment via performance education. Every directive will concurrently work towards the realization of the highest possible result in the competitive arena.

CORE VALUES: Standardize our department, drive competence and continual development.                30433

PERFORMANCE METHODOLOGY: A comprehensive physical development program is at the cornerstone of developing the NCAA student-athlete and enabling them in their pursuit of sport mastery.

GENERAL FOCI:
Movement
  • Movement efficiency must serve as the foundation to all training.
  • Maximizing trainable attributes such as speed and power require a firm base built around balance in the movement system.
  • Increasing mechanical efficiency is a priority; statistics show that the more mechanically efficient you are, the less injuries you have, the higher degree of performance and the less energy you expend.
Energy Systems
  • The student-athlete's work capacity will define his/her ability to realize his/her strength, speed, and power potential repeatedly during competition.
  • Success may be determined by the ability of the athlete to recover as fully as possible during each rest period.
  • Task specific work capacity may only be developed via task specific training.
Strength
  • Strength may be the most all-encompassing bio-motor quality. All forms of motion require some expression of force.
  • Each session will feature an organized progression of exercises incorporating different loading ranges based on the specifics of the training block.
  • Orthopedic considerations form a fundamental criteria when selecting exercises used in the physical preparation of our athletes.

PERFORMANCE EDUCATION: The most important ingredient in any expert system is knowledge.
This is our "mental hypertrophy program". We work toward the development of our student-athletes as people, not just players. We want to cultivate awareness by providing and organizing information to help student-athletes succeed in athletics and life. We develop and disseminate information in the following categories: mindset, recovery, nutrition, culture, and movement. After creating awareness, our goal is to encourage the student-athletes to invest in themselves. Our educational system encourages intrinsic motivation and fosters a motivational environment. In doing so, we optimize the likelihood of adherence and the transfer of training to sport.

PERFORMANCE TEAM: To become the best "team" in the country at student-athlete development.
The organization and development of a competent staff is absolutely the most important part of our performance program. Our goal is to create an environment where the athlete looks forward to coming to work and that a bunch of people are trying to put him and his teammates in the best position to succeed.

It is our desire to build up CHAMPIONS FOR CHRIST!

"For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline." - 2 Timothy 1:7
