Dallas Baptist University traveled to Magnolia, Arkansas, to take on Southern Arkansas University on Saturday, November 25 in a non-conference game. The Patriots were able to come out of there with their second win of the year knocking of the Muleriders, 72-67, improving their record to 2-2, while SAU fell to 1-2.
The game was back and forth through the first half with both teams going on significant runs. DBU jumped out first going up 24-12 with six minutes to play in the first half, only to be answered by a 17-7 run by the Muleriders to close out the half, leaving the score 31-29 with DBU in the lead.
The second half was no different with both teams having leads until two minutes left in the game when DBU showed how good of a conditioned team they are by closing the game out with a 11-6 run to seal the victory.
The Patriots jumped back from their poor shooting performance last game by shooting 50% from the field, 46% from three-point line, and went 18-27 from the free throw line, while holding the Muleriders to 45% shooting and 35% from the three point line.
Junior Nick Michels and Sophomore Jonathan Teat both scored 19 points to lead the way for the Patriots. Michels went five for 10 from the field and eight for 10 from the charity line, while Teat went six for 10 from the field and three for five from the free throw line. Junior Dwight Coleman added 11 points of his own, while Sophomore Brandon Wash had a team high five rebounds.
DBU will look to continue their winning ways on Thursday, November 30, when they travel to Abilene, Texas, to take on Abilene Christian University, at 8:00.
