Men's Basketball
Dallas Baptist University Men's Basketball team traveled to Ada, Oklahoma, to take part in the East Central University Classic on December 18 and 19. The Patriots played two tough games, but were not able to pull out a victory in either one, which leaves them with a 3-6 overall record.
Game one paired DBU up against Cameron University on Monday night. The Patriots and Aggies played in a high pace and scoring game with CU winning the game 98-87, improving their overall record to 8-2. The game saw the two teams trading fouls with the Aggies going 34-45 from the charity line, while the Patriots went 27-42, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Leading the Patriots was Freshman Eddie Gloviak, who scored a career high 29 points on 8-14 shooting from the field and 13-19 shooting from the free throw line. Juniors Nick Michels and Erik Villarreal continued their strong play with Michels scoring 21 points on 7-13 shooting and Villarreal dishing out nine assists and scoring three points.
The final game of the Classic matched up the Tigers from East Central University and DBU for the second time this season. ECU won game one on November 21, 69-60 at the Burg Center on the campus of Dallas Baptist University .
With the score being 39-33 in favor of the Tigers at half-time it looked to be a competitive game in the second half. The Patriots cut the lead to 41-37 with momentum on their side when the Tigers clamped down their defense and proceeded to go on a 41-10 run. During the run the Patriots missed layups, open jump shots and gave up numerous offensive rebounds to the Tigers. The 82-47 final score gave the Tigers a 5-4 overall record.
DBU struggled in the second half going 5-27 from the field and 1-7 from the three-point line, while ECU went 15-25 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arch. The Patriots continued to struggle from the free-throw line going 7-14 and rebounding, getting out rebounded 41-29.
DBU will look to stop their three game losing streak on December 30, when they travel to Austin, Texas, to take on St. Edwards University, at 8:00, for their first Heartland Conference game.
