DBU traveled to Abilene, Texas, to take on Abilene Christian University in a non-conference game at Moody Coliseum on Monday night. The Patriots jumped out to a early 7-0 lead, but was not able to maintain the momentum losing the game 76-61. With the loss, the Patriots fell to 2-3 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 5-1.
The Patriots, who were only down four points with seven minutes left in the game allowed ACU to go on a quick 9-2 run in a span of three minutes. After the run the Wildcats took a demanding 11 point lead with four minutes to play and closed the game out on a 7-3 run.
DBU was led by Junior Dwight Coleman, who went seven for 11 from the field and scored 15 points. Sophomore Brandon Wash continued to be a rebounding force, pulling down 11 boards and scoring six points. Junior Nick Michels put in another solid night with 15 points, four rebounds, and three steals.
As a team the Patriots shot 44% from the field, 22% from the three-point line, and improved on a season struggle from the free-throw line by shooting 91%, including going nine for 10 in the second half.
DBU did out rebound the Wildcats by grabbing 39 boards compared to only 26 for ACU. However, the Patriots committed 28 turnovers to only 18 for the Wildcats, which proved to be the difference in the game.
The Patriots will welcome Southern Arkansas University to the campus of Dallas Baptist University, on Wednesday, December 6 for a non-conference show down. The Patriots, who defeated SAU earlier in the season, will look to jump back from a tough loss last night when the ball tips off at 7:00, in the Burg Center.
