DBU's Men's Basketball Team had trouble keeping up with the fast guard play of UT Permian-Basin in a tough loss Monday night.  The Falcons defeated the Patriots 76-63 to improve their record to 7-11, while DBU fell to 6-11.

The Patriots never seemed to be able to get over the hump and pull away from the Falcons, only having three leads all night, which came early in the first half. UTPB took a 31-29 lead into the locker room at half time and largely because of poor free throw shooting from DBU, who shot eight for 14 from the charity line.

The second half saw the Falcons come out red-hot by hitting four of their first six shots, which helped them extend their lead to 11 points.  DBU made some small runs but were never able to claw their way back into the game.

With the lead, UTPB was able to spread the ball out and use their speed to their advantage.  It forced the Patriots to play pressure defense and have to cover the quicker Falcons.  UTPB was able to drive around DBU's guards to draw several fouls and convert easy shots in the paint during the second half.

DBU had been approving each game on their free throw shooting but tonight saw them slip back down only shooting 57% for the game.  The Patriots finished the night by shooting 33% from the field and turned the ball over 19 times.  Both free throws and turnovers prove to be the difference in the game, with the Falcons shooting 72% from the charity line and only having 12 turnovers.

The Patriots were led by Junior Dwight Coleman and Sophomore Brandon Wash.  Coleman scored a game high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Wash added 11 points and 21 rebounds.

DBU will look to jump back from this tough loss on January 29, when they travel to Lincoln University, to take on the Lions in a Heartland Conference show down.
