The Patriots from Dallas Baptist University traveled to Jefferson City, Missouri, to take on Lincoln University in a Heartland Conference game on Monday night.
DBU, who has struggled the entire season away from the Burg Center, continued to struggle against the Lions losing 79-69. With the loss, DBU fell to 6-12 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while Lincoln improved to 4-13 and 1-5. DBU has now lost their last eight games on the road and have a 1-9 record overall away from Dallas Baptist.
DBU started off strong with a 27-24 lead late in the first half, however, the Patriots allowed the Lions to make a 9-2 run to finish off the half and take a 33-29 lead at the half. The Patriots committed four turnovers during the late run by Lincoln, which allowed the Lions to have the lead and confidence going to the second half.
The Lions used the confidence they built at the end of the first half and came out determined to defend their home court to pick up their first conference win of the season. Lincoln never trailed in the second half and at one point pushed their lead to 21 points.
Head Coach Blake Flickner stated, "Lincoln played very hard and with more passion than we did tonight. They used their passion and our mistakes to build their confidence throughout the game."
Leading the Patriots was Junior Nick Michels, who scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Freshman Eddie Gloviak added 12 points and five rebounds, while Sophomore Brandon Wash had seven points and five rebounds.
DBU as a team shot 42% from the field, 40% from the three-point line, and continued their season struggle from the charity line only shooting 41%. The Lions shot 43% from the field, 40% from beyond the arch, and 72% from the free throw line.
The Patriots will be in action again on February 1, when they welcome Texas A&M International to the Burg Center for a 7:00 tip.
