DBU's Men's Basketball Team played their first two games at the NCCAA National Tournament on Thursday and Friday afternoon. The Patriots entered the tournament as the South Central Region Champions and seeded number six.
As the six seed the Patriots were matched up against the number three seed Northwestern College on Thursday afternoon. DBU played Northwestern tough all day and stayed within five points the whole game, but were not able to pull out the victory, losing 73-68.
The Patriots spread the ball around on offense having four of their five starters score in double figures, including 14 points and eight rebounds by Sophomore Brandon Wash. The difference in the game was the three-point shooting by Northwestern, who hit 12 of their 26 attempts from beyond the arch.
DBU took on the number seven seeded Malone College on Friday afternoon and lost 89-73. The Patriots, who had a significant size advantage, settled for the outside shot attempting 24 three-point shots.Â
The Patriots were only able to connect on eight of the 24 attempts, while shooting 35% from the field for the game. DBU, who was out rebounded 48-41 for the game, allowed Malone to score 56 points in the second half and out score the Patriots by 15 points.
Leading DBU against Malone was Junior Nick Michels, who scored 24 points off nine of 14 shooting; he also grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assist, and had one steal.Â
DBU will look to pick up their first victory of the tournament when they play Oakland City University on Saturday afternoon, at 2:00.Â
