The Patriots Men's Basketball Team picked up their second straight victory on Tuesday night, when they defeated Cameron University in overtime, 98-91, at the Burg Center on the campus of Dallas Baptist University . With the hard fought victory, DBU improved to 5-9, while Cameron fell to 2-13.
DBU and the Aggies traded baskets all game, with each team going on significant runs. The Patriots three different times in the game went up by at least nine points, but the stubborn Aggies would not go away, always cutting the lead back down. The Aggies finished off the first half on one of their runs and took a one-point lead into the locker room.
DBU came out smoking in the second half riding the hot hand of Freshman Braxton Adamson, who hit a career high seven three-pointers. The Patriots ran to a nine-point lead with about five minutes to play in the game, but a late run by the Aggies cut DBU's lead to three points.
The Patriots, who shot the ball well all night, had a chance to ice the game at the charity line, but a missed free throw left a door open for Cameron to have a chance to tie the score at the end of regulation. Greg Morgan made his way down the court and with seven seconds left in the game threw up a contested three-point shot over two Patriots and hit the bottom of the net to tie the score and force over time.
DBU determined not to let the game slip away took full control of the game in overtime outscoring the Aggies 14-7, including hitting several key free throws down the stretch to close out the game.
The Patriots were led by Adamson, who scored a season high 27 points off of nine of 14 shots. Freshman Thomas Mathews, who made his first collegiate start, was a force down low for DBU, scoring 19 points and grabbing seven boards, including four offensive rebounds. Senior Nick Michels, who was playing sick, contributed with 16 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.
Morgan led the way for the Aggies, with 31 points, while Leslie Malone added 23 points and 10 boards.
The Patriots will look to continue their win streak on January 19, when they play host to Texas A&M International University . The Heartland Conference match up is scheduled to tip off at 4:00.
