Newman too Much for Patriots in Wichita

DBU fell to a high powered Newman University team on Thursday night in Wichita, Kansas. With the 93-87 loss to the Jets, the Patriots fell to 5-12 overall and 0-4 on the road. Newman, who is a provisional member of the Heartland Conference, improved to 10-5 overall.

The Patriots came out smoking hitting on 54 percent of their shots and knocking down four of eight three-point field goals in the first half, to take a two point lead into the locker room. The Jets only shot 48 percent from the field but connected on seven three-pointers to stay in the game.

The second half saw the Jets offense heat up and the Patriots defense lacking in intensity. Newman connected on six more three-point field goals and 58 percent of their shots to overtake the Patriots. The Jets also forced DBU to commit 23 turnovers, which led to critical points at the end of the game.

DBU did out rebound Newman by six rebounds, including pulling down 16 offensive boards. The Patriots also out shot the Jets at the free-throw line by hitting 67 percent to only 58 percent by Newman, however, turnovers again plagued DBU in the loss.

The Patriots were led by Freshman standout, Braxton Adamson, who had a game high 23 points, including hitting five three-pointers. Senior Nick Michels contributed with 16 points, while Senior Manny Montano and Junior Dwight Coleman each had 15 points.

The Patriots will look to shoot their way out of their slump on January 26, when the take on Oklahoma Panhandle State University, in Ada, Oklahoma.
