The Patriots Basketball Team dropped their fourth straight game on Thursday night when they took on the University of the Incarnate Word. UIW defeated DBU 76-69 in San Antonio to revenge their loss to the Patriots earlier this season.
With the loss DBU fell to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while UIW improved to 6-6 and 1-1.
DBU out shot the Cardinals from the field and pulled down nine more rebounds than UIW, however, the difference in the game was the turnover differential. The Patriots committed 19 turnovers to only nine for UIW.
The Cardinals were able to turn the turnovers into key baskets which proved to be the game changer they needed at the end of regulation.
The Patriots shot 47 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arch, and 60 percent from the charity line, while UIW shot only 37 percent from the field and 43 percent from the three-point line.
Senior Dwight Coleman led DBU with 16 points and eight boards, while Senior Nick Michels contributed with 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
The Cardinals were led by Chris Patterson, who scored a game high 22 points, while Pierce Caldwell and Eric Nuncio each scored 17 points.
The Patriots will look to snap their losing streak on January 5, when they welcome St. Mary's University to the Burg Center for a 4:00 game.
