Former DBU Patriot Baseball player, Ben Zobrist, experienced his first MLB postseason start in Game 1 of the 2008 MLB World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Zobrist had the opportunity to start in right field for the Tampa Bay Rays opening night at Tropicana Field in Florida .
Zobrist has been a utility player for the Rays throughout the season helping them on the field as well as at the plate. He has given his team 12 home runs, and 30 RBIs while keeping a .253 batting average for the season.
Zobrist has earned his spot on the team this year for the Rays, and has been a part of their unbelievable season. "We are very proud of what Ben has accomplished since playing at DBU. Ben is a very familiar face around our program, he has come back every year in the off-season to work out and be a resource for our players. It is great to see his hard work pay off in not only making it to the major leagues, but excelling and starting in the World Series," Patriot Head Coach Dan Heefner said.
The Rays playoff run has included a 3-1 Divisional Series win against the Chicago White Sox, and a seven game American League Championship Series win against the Boston Red Sox. Unfortunately, Zobrist and the Rays were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in the World Series.
