The Patriots hosted the East Central University Tigers Tuesday night in the Burg Center in a high scoring battle. A determined offense gave the Patriots enough in the end to finish off the Tigers in an entertaining 125-111 shootout to improve their record to 4-0 on the season.

Both teams started the game out slow, but soon kicked it into high gear. The Tigers shot an impressive 55 percent from the floor in the first half. ECU's Justin Wilkerson led the way as the Tigers pulled away from the Patriots with four minutes left to lead by ten, 44-34. ECU had six players score in double figures for the night.

The Patriots held strong and stuck to the game plan in the high paced game. Sophomore Braxton Adamson hit two late threes in the first to bring the game back together. Junior Eddie Gloviak added two free throws, and Junior Bryan Baumann hit an outstanding last second shot to send the teams into halftime with the Tigers having slight edge over the Patriots 57-53.

The Patriots momentum quickly carried through to the second half as they gained the lead from the Tigers when Freshman Jordan McGowan drained a ten footer for two to go ahead 70-69. Baumann quickly added a three to boost the lead to ten and gave his team the confidence they needed to shoot a blistering 61 percent from the floor and 59 percent from three in the second half. The Patriots were able to fend off late offensive attacks by the Tigers to win 125-111.

"I am proud of our guys on how we spread the offense across the court and were able to have five guys score in double figures tonight. It was a great team effort." Head Coach Flickner said.

Baumann ended the night with a game high 30 points, 19 coming in the second half shooting 5-8 from behind the arc in the last 20 minutes of the game.

McGowan posted his first career double-double in only his fourth game for DBU, Tuesday night against the Tigers, as he scored 16 points while adding 10 boards in only 23 minutes.

DBU starters Adamson (24 points) and Gloviak (24 points) combined for 48 points to help lead the Patriots to victory and give the team their fourth win of the season. Gloviak was only two boards away from having a double-double.

"What a fun and exciting game to be a part of." Flickner said. "Both teams kept the tempo of the game fast with high powered run and gun offenses. Our team struggled early in the first but caught fire in the second. It seemed we could not miss in that second half. Games like these are what make NCAA basketball great!" said Flickner.

Other Patriot Notables: Sophomore Dean Pele (14 points, 7 rebounds), Junior Trent Brownlee (6 points, 6 rebounds), and Senior Shelby Lewis (4 points, 12 assists)

The Patriots are back in action at home December 2, 2008, as they host the Abilene Christian University Wildcats in the Burg Center . Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
