The Patriots Basketball Team stays on fire in Laredo, Texas, after they won an ole fashion Texas shoot out 114-109 over Texas A&M International University. The victory gave DBU their seventh straight win and improved their overall record to 12-14. The Dustdevils on the other hand fell to 8-14 overall.

The Patriots and Dustdevils could not seem to miss a shot throughout the entire game with each team shooting well over 50 percent from the field for the game. TAMIU took advantage of their hot shooting the first half and used nine three-point field goals to take a 52-50 lead at the break. DBU shot 60 percent in the first half but a couple of Patriot turnovers and offensive rebounds by TAMIU allowed the Dustdevils to have more opportunities offensively in the first half.

The second half saw each team improve their offensive performance, with the Patriots scoring 64 points and knocking down 71 percent of their shots, while the Dustdevils hit 55 percent of their shots to score 57 points. DBU hit seven of nine three-point attempts and 13 of 15 free-throw attempts in the second half. The three-point makes and outstanding shooting from the charity line proved to be the difference in the game.

For the game DBU hit 11 out of 19 three-pointers, knocked down 42 field goals in 64 attempts, and went 19 of 24 from the charity line. Even though the Dustdevils shot the ball extremely well they could not keep up with the red hot Patriots. TAMIU shot 53 percent from the field, 45 percent from beyond the arch, and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

DBU had three players score over 20 points including, Senior Nick Michels, Junior Brandon Wash, and Freshman Braxton Adamson. Michels led the way with 26 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, while Adamson scored 25 points, including scoring 21 points in the second half. Wash finished off his night going 7 for 7 from the field to score 21 points; he also had four boards and four assists.

The Patriots will finish up their regular season on Monday, February 25, when they welcome Oklahoma Panhandle State University to the Burg Center.
