The Patriots Basketball Team revenged their early season loss against St. Mary's University on Thursday night in San Antonio. The Patriots and Rattlers were tied with eight seconds left to play, when Junior Shelby Lewis nailed the game winning three pointer, which gave DBU a 78-75 victory. With the victory, DBU improved to 7-14 overall and 2-5 in conference play, while St. Mary's fell to 11-9 and 4-2.

DBU used a complete team effort to pull out their first road victory of the season. The Patriots had four different players score in double figures and two more score eight points. They shot the ball well Thursday night, hitting 48 percent of their shots in the first half and an astounding 72 percent in the second half, when they went 16 for 22 from the field.

The Patriots also played great team defense, especially in the second half when they needed some stops to close out the game. The Patriots held the Rattlers to 39 percent shooting in the second half, forced them into 22 turnovers, and stole the basketball from them 11 times.

Head Coach Blake Flickner said, “It was a real team effort that took us to victory. The victory was a great win against the first place team in the Heartland Conference.”

Leading DBU to victory was, Senior Nick Michels, who scored 17 points and had three rebounds, while Freshman Braxton Adamson contributed with 12 points and eight assists. Senior Dwight Coleman and Brandon Wash each had 11 points, while Lewis and Senior Manny Montano finished with eight points.

The Patriots will look to continue their winning ways on February 9, when the play host to UT-Permian Basin. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 in the Burg.
