Patriots Smash Aggies for Seventh Straight Win

The Patriots continued their two game road trip Monday night as they traveled to Goodwell, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies for a Heartland Conference match-up. The Patriots came out on top to capture their seventh consecutive victory, 81-54.

Senior Shelby Lewis hit a jumper to open up the scoring as the Patriots hit the Aggies hard early in the first half jumping out to a 10 point lead.

The Aggies were able to chip away at the Patriot lead and bring it back to as little as seven points, but the Patriot defense pressured the Aggie offense and were able to grab nine first half steals. The defensive play helped the Patriots build back upon their lead to finish out the half on top leading by 13 in a score of 34-21.

The second half was no different as the Patriots further extended their lead to run away from the Aggies late in the game to capture their seventh consecutive victory, 81-54. The Patriots shot 54 percent from the field and 46 percent from behind the arc in the win.

Junior Eddie Gloviak headed up the Patriot offense as he scored a game high 16 points in the win. Gloviak was close to perfect in the game, shooting 5-for-6 from the field and going 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. He also posted four rebounds, two steals, and one assist on the night. His performance was at the top of the four other Patriots scoring in double figures.

Junior Bryan Baumann was not far behind Gloviak as he was able to post 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, three steals, and one block. Sophomore Braxton Adamson scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had two steals and one assist.

Senior Shelby Lewis and Junior Trent Brownlee rounded out the Patriots double figure scorers as they both had 10 points in the victory. Lewis also had two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Brownlee helped on the glass grabbing five total rebounds. He also was able to snatch four steals while giving one assist to his teammates in the win.

With the win, the Patriots improve their season record to 19-5, and move to 9-4 in Heartland Conference play. The Aggies fall to 4-17 on the season after suffering the loss.

The Patriots are back in action on February 16, 2009, as they host Lincoln University in the Burg Center as DBU looks for their fifth straight home win. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
