The Patriots hosted the Texas A&M International Dustdevils in the Burg Center for DBU's last home game of the season. The night started by honoring the Patriot Seniors, Shelby Lewis and Justin Pinckney, and ended with a Patriot victory over the Dustdevils, 77-61.
The Patriots started the game with a lot of momentum coming off a convincing win against Lincoln earlier in the week. DBU jumped out to an 11 point lead as the Patriot offense put the Dustdevil defense on their heels going on a 16-5 run to start the game. The Patriots kept pushing the fast paced offense and ended the half ahead of the Dustdevils, 41-28.
In the second half, the Patriots were able to extend their lead to as many as 22 points, but strong play from Sean Tucker for the Dustdevils brought them back within 11 with 3:47 left to play. Tucker ended the night with 21 points, eight rebounds, and two steals.
The Patriot coaching staff was able to rally their troops for a last minute charge that finished off the Dustdevils, 77-61, to finish Senior Night with a win.
The DBU offense was led by Freshman
Jordan McGowen as he posted his second double double as a Patriot with a game high 23 points and game high 12 rebounds. McGowen shot 9-for-15 from the field, 1-for-2 from behind the arc, and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. McGowen also added four assists and grabbed one steal on the night.
Sophomore Braxton Adamson was not far behind, scoring 19 points and grabbing four rebounds in the win. Adamson shot 6-for-16 from the field, 3-for-7 from 3-point range, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. He also added one assist and one steal in the win.

"Tonight was a very special night. Shelby Lewis and Justin Pinckney have been unbelievable leaders for us this year, and it was important to us that we send those two seniors out on a positive note. It was one of our best defensive performances of the year. Shelby and Justin are so well respected by our guys, and I think the love our players have for those guys was really shown in the effort they gave tonight. Guys were diving on the floor, taking charges and pursuing rebounds with a little bit more passion tonight," Head Coach Blake Flickner said.
"Shelby and Justin both set a great example for their teammates with their effort and their attitudes. They are both great basketball players, but more importantly, they are great men. God has special things planned for them over the next 60 years of their life, and we are proud to have them forever in the DBU Basketball family. It has been fun to watch them grow and mature over the last few years," said Flickner.
The Patriots extend their winning streak to nine straight games, and keep alive their home winning streak with their sixth straight win. The Patriots improve to 21-5 for the season and 11-4 in Heartland Conference play to stay in second place. The Dustdevils fall to 7-16 for the season and 5-7 in conference play after suffering the loss.
The Patriots are back in action as they travel to Jefferson City, Missouri, to take on the Lincoln University Blue Tigers on February 23, 2009 to close out Heartland Conference play. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
