Patriots End Regular Season with Tenth Straight Win

The Patriots traveled to Jefferson City, Missouri, to take on the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University on Monday, February 24, 2009, to end regular season play. After a slow start the Patriots take it to the Blue Tigers and come out victorious to continue a 10 game winning streak, 90-74.

The first half begin with the Blue Tigers scoring quick to knock the Patriots on their heels gaining the lead after a 13-4 run. The Patriots struggled on the offensive side of the ball for the majority of the half as the Blue Tigers extended their lead to as much as 12 points.

DBU was able to take advantage of late fouls as they drained all six chances they were given from the charity stripe with only four minutes in the half. Sophomore Braxton Adamson and Junior Bryan Baumann hit three crucial shots from behind the arc to give the Patriots the lead going into halftime, 42-37.

Adamson ended the night with 11 points, two steals, and one rebound.

Baumann led the Patriots offense as he posted a double double scoring a game high 28 points while grabbing a game high 11 rebounds. Eight of those rebounds coming on the defensive side of the ball. He also added five assists, one block, and one steal in the win.

Junior Eddie Gloviak had a big night scoring 15 points, grabbing three rebounds while adding one assist and one steal on the night.

Freshman Jordan McGowen rounded out the double digit scorers for the Patriots as he scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds. He also had one assist and one steal throughout the night.

Patriots had a revamped game plan coming into the second half that included tightening up their defense to put more pressure on the Blue Tiger guards. The halftime adjustments worked to perfection as the Patriots had a tremendous run that was led by Baumann. Junior Trent Brownlee capped off the 26-5 second half run with a short jumper to lead Lincoln , 68-42. Brownlee had nine rebounds, seven points, one block, and one steal on the night.

The Blue Tigers had no answer for the Patriots offense as DBU went on to defeat Lincoln, 90-74.

With the win, the Patriots finish out the regular season with a record of 22-5 overall and 12-4 in Heartland Conference play. The win marks the Patriots tenth consecutive win. The loss drops the Blue Tigers to 5-20 on the year and 2-12 in conference.

The Patriots now turn their focus towards the Heartland Conference Tournament that will be held on Friday, March 6 – 7. The location of the tournament will be announced March 1, 2009, after the conclusion of the last Heartland Conference match-up.
