Patriots Rally to Win 10-9

The DBU Patriots improve to 3-2 on the season defeating the Siena Saints at Patriot Field on Thursday night, 10-9. The Saints fall to 1-6 for the season.

Starting pitcher Junior Victor Black pitched five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, while striking out 10 Siena batters.

Enos blasted the first pitch thrown to the Patriots over the left field fence to tie the game at one after the Saints managed to get one unearned run in the top of the inning off of Black.

Enos hit his second homerun of the game in the bottom of the second inning, a three-run shot. Freshman Ryan Behmanesh walked, Senior Clay Kelly singled and Freshman Ben Mrachek followed with a RBI single, which set up the homerun, giving DBU the 5-1 lead.

The Saints added a run in the third inning on two doubles to close the score to 5-2.

The Patriots extended their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning as Junior Ryan Goins hit a solo homerun over the left field fence.

The Saints hit a solo homerun off Patriot reliever Sophomore Brett Kolomyjec in the top of the sixth to move the score to 6-3.

Siena continued their scoring in the top of seventh when Kolomyjec walked two batters, and then was relieved by Junior Chris Haney. Haney preceded to walk two, gave up two hits, and the lead, making the score 9-6.

The Patriots scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to retake the lead. Enos started off the inning with a triple to right field and Krizan reached first on an error which scored Enos. Goins reached on an RBI single and Sophomore Josh Wilson and Senior Brandon Bantz followed with singles. Behmanesh added a RBI single, giving DBU the lead 10-9.

Haney picked up the win, his first of the season pitching two and two thirds innings.

The Patriots are back in action at Patriot Field as they take on the Siena Saints for the second game of the series on Friday, Feb 27 at 3:00 p.m.
