Patriots Move Into Second Place

Heartland Conference Standings

The Patriots traveled to Odessa, Texas to play the UT-Permian Basin Falcons in The Falcon Dome for a Heartland Conference match-up. The Patriots were able to fly past the Falcons to capture their sixth straight win. The Patriots led the entire second half to go on to beat the Falcons, 87-78.

The game started quickly from the tip as Falcons Rob Harris hit a three to open up the scoring. The lead was being thrown back and forth between the two teams until midway through the first half when Patriot Senior Shelby Lewis connected from 3-point range to start the Patriots on a 9-2 offensive run.

The Falcons could not find a way to stop the Patriot offense as DBU shot 53.1 percent from the floor in the first half and headed into the locker room with a 10 point lead over the Falcons, 46-36.

The Falcons were able to find life in the second half as they crept back within two of the Patriots with only five minutes ticking off the clock. The Falcon surge was led by an impressive overall performance from Rob Harris. He posted a double double in the loss. Harris scored a game high 31 points, and game high 12 rebounds. He went 14 of 24 from the field and 2 of 5 from behind the arc.

The Patriots responded with an offensive show themselves pulling away from the Falcons to capture their sixth consecutive victory, 87-78. DBU continued to shoot well in the second half to finish the night with a 50.8 percent field goal average. Five players scored in double figures for the Patriots with two posting double doubles.

Senior Shelby Lewis scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds, and posted a game high 12 assists on the night to help guide his team to the win Saturday night. Junior Dean Pele also had a double double in the win as he was able to score 20 points on 7 of 12 from the field and 4 for 7 from behind the arc. Pele also came down with 11 rebounds with nine of them coming on the defensive glass. Also with a good night, Junior Eddie Gloviak scored 18 points, had two rebounds, and two assists.

With the win, the Patriots move into second place in the Heartland Conference with a conference record of 8-4. The Patriots season record improves to 18-5. The Falcons fall to 8-13 on the season and 4-6 in Heartland Conference play.

The Patriots are back in action as they travel to Goodwell, Oklahoma to take on the Aggies from Oklahoma Panhandle State University for a Heartland Conference match-up and look for their seventh straight win. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
