Patriots Roll-Over Bears

The DBU Patriots improved to 9-3 on the season after an impressive offensive appearance on Tuesday, March 10, at Patriot Field defeating the Central Arkansas Bears, 12-3. The Patriots scored twelve runs on fifteen hits with Senior Kevin Aduddell picking up the win for the team. Aduddell improves to 1-0 on the year. The Bears only managed to score three runs on the day and fall to 9-4 on the year.

Starting pitcher Aduddell made his first career start for the Patriots pitching two and one third innings allowing only one run on two hits. Junior Brett Wade pitched one and two thirds innings allowing no runs on one hit, and two strikeouts. Freshman Chris Taylor and Freshman Ryan Behmanesh both added one inning in relief. Freshman Michael Smith pitched two innings and Sophomore Josh Wilson closed out the Bears pitching one inning and leaving the score, 12-3.

The Patriots were led at the plate by Senior Trevor Head as he went 3 for 5 on the day, with two homeruns, one double, and four RBI.

Junior Ryan Enos led off the first inning with a solo homerun to give the Patriots a quick 1-0 lead.

In the second inning of play, the Patriots pushed one more across as Senior Clay Kelly knocked Behmanesh in from third, after Behmanesh who reached on a base hit up the middle, then advanced on a wild pitch.

The Bears answered in the third inning with an RBI single, making the score 2-1.

Junior Ryan Goins led of the third inning for the Patriots with a walk. Senior Trevor Head came up to the plate and blasted a two run homerun. Junior Ryan Thompson walked, followed by an error by the third baseman allowing Behmanesh to reach first, and Kelly hit a three run homerun scoring both Thompson and Behmanesh on the play extending the Patriot lead, 7-1.

The Patriots added to their lead in the fourth when Thompson hit a RBI double by scoring Knight, who reached on a single to right field.

The Bears managed one run in the fifth and another in the sixth to leave the score 8-3.

In the eighth inning the Patriots picked the scoring back up when Head hit his second homerun of the game scoring Goins. Senior Brandon Bantz brought another run across the plate after an RBI single which scored Sophomore Jason Krizan, who reached base on a single to right field. Then Freshman Ben Mrachek hit a RBI double down the left field line to score Bantz and finish off the Bears, 12-3.

The Patriots are back in action tomorrow March 11, as they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
