Patriots Shoot Down Red Raiders

Box Score

The DBU Patriots improved to 10-3 on the season on Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots traveled to Lubbock, Texas, and captured their 10th win of the season as they defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 11-2 at Dan Law Field.

Starting pitcher Junior Victor Black allowed only one run on three hits through six innings with six strikeouts to pick up the win over the Red Raiders, moving to 2-0 on the season. Freshman Ben Palmer added one inning of relief allowing one run on two hits, while Junior Michael LaCourse finished off the Red Raiders pitching two scoreless innings.

Leading the Patriots at the plate was Junior Ryan Thompson who went 2 for 3 on the day with two singles, one walk, and two RBI.

The Patriots jumped on the board early scoring two runs in each of the first two innings.

In the first inning, Thompson hit a two RBI single up the middle to score Juniors Ryan Goins and Austin Knight, who reached on a walk and a Red Raider error.

Senior Brandon Bantz walked to lead off the second inning. Senior Clay Kelly had a drag-bunt single, advancing Bantz to second, which set up Junior Ryan Enos' two RBI double to right center that scored Bantz and Kelly.

The Patriots held Texas Tech scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Red Raiders managed one run off of Black and added another off Palmer in the seventh to leave the score, 4-2.

The Patriot offense was able to add four more runs in the eighth inning. Sophomore Jason Krizan started things off with an RBI single, scoring Goins who reached on a walk. The Patriots scored again after the Red Raiders walked the bases loaded, and then walked Kelly to score Thompson. Junior Ryan Enos singled up the middle to score Bantz and Mrachek, finishing out the inning with an 8-2 lead.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Patriots extended their lead after scoring three runs to diminish the Red Raider's hope for a comeback win when Senior Trevor Head doubled to open up the inning. Head then advanced to third after a Thompson single to left. Sophomore Jason Krizan smashed a two RBI double to center field, scoring Head and Thompson on the play. The Patriots added one more run when Bantz doubled to right field to score Krizan as DBU went on to defeat TTU, 11-2.

The Patriots are back in action on Friday, March 13, as they welcome Oral Roberts University to Patriot field for the start of a three game series. The first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
