Patriots Rally Late to Beat Warhawks

The Patriots improved to 11-3 on the year as they defeated the University of Louisiana-Monroe at Patriot Field on Tuesday night, 13-11.

Starting pitcher Sophomore Jared Stafford pitched three innings allowing four runs on seven hits and adding one strikeout. Freshman Ryan Behmanesh and Junior Brett Wade combine to pitch two and one third innings in relief. Junior Michael LaCourse pitched two and one third innings picking up the win moving him to 1-0 on the season while Sophomore Chris Haney captured his second save on the year pitching a scoreless one and one third innings to close out the Warhawks.

Leading the Patriots at the plate was Sophomore Jason Krizan as he went 4 for 5 on the day with one homerun, three singles, and three RBI. Senior Trevor Head and Junior Ryan Thompson combine for four homeruns in the win with two a piece. Head went 2 for 5 with two homeruns and four RBI. Thompson went 3 for 5 in the win hitting two homeruns, one single, while adding two RBI.

The Warhawks started the game out swinging as they managed two runs off Stafford in the top of the first.

The Patriots answered scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to gain the lead, 3-2. Junior Ryan Enos doubled to left center and then scored on a Junior Ryan Goins single. Then Senior Trevor Head came up the plate and hit a two run homerun over the left field wall scoring Goins on the play to put the Patriots on top.

Kelly led off the second inning with a single, and then was pushed across the plate by an Enos RBI single to center field to extend the Patriot lead, 4-2.

The Warhawks were able to put two more on the board in the top of the third off Stafford to even the score up, 4-4.

Junior Ryan Thompson led off bottom of the third inning with a solo homerun grabbing the lead back for the Patriots, 5-4.

Louisiana-Monroe added one run off of Behmanesh before Thompson smashed his second solo homerun of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Then Sophomore Jason Krizan singled to reach first base, advanced to second on an error, and scored off a RBI single from Senior Brandon Bantz to put the Patriots in front of the Warhawks, 7-5.

The Warhawks managed to put up four on the board off Junior Brett Wade and Junior Michael LaCourse in the top of the sixth inning taking the lead, 9-7.

The Patriots rallied to tie the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs as Head hit his second two run homerun of the game scoring Goins on the play, after Goins reached by a walk.

The Patriots continued swinging the bats throughout the seventh inning taking the lead after Enos reached on a double to set up for a RBI single from Goins. Then Krizan crushed a three run homerun scoring Goins and Knight on the play to give the Patriots a 13-9 lead going into the top of the eighth.

The Warhawks managed two off of LaCourse in the eighth.

Haney stepped in to relieve LaCourse in the eighth, and pitched a scoreless ninth to finish off the Warhawks, 13-11.

The Patriots are back in action tomorrow afternoon March 18, as they welcome back Louisiana-Monroe to Patriot Field. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
