The DBU Patriots fell to No. 9 Texas Longhorns in a close game in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday evening, 3-0. With the loss, the Patriots drop to 12-7 on the season. The Longhorns improve to 15-6 with the win.
Starting pitcher Junior Victor Black for the Patriots was stuck with the loss moving him to 3-1 on the year. Black pitched seven innings allowing only three runs on seven hits to the Longhorns. He also struck out seven Longhorns on the day. Sophomore Chris Haney finished out the game pitching one scoreless inning in relief allowing zero hits with one strikeout. Dicharry grabbed the win for the Longhorns improving his record to 1-1 on the year.
Leading the Patriots at the plate was Junior Ryan Goins who went 3 for 4 on the day with one double and two singles.
The score was deadlocked until the Longhorns pushed one run across the plate off of Black in the bottom of the third to give them a 1-0 lead over the Patriots.
Strong pitching from both Black for the Patriots and Dicharry for the Longhorns kept the score 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth when Texas managed to score one run and added an insurance run in the seventh extending the Longhorn lead, 3-0.
The Patriots were not able to score in the closing innings as they stranded two runners on base, one in the eighth and one in the ninth, and suffer their seventh loss on the year dropping their record to 12-7.
The Patriots are back in action as they welcome Louisiana Tech University to Patriot Field on Thursday, March 26, for the start of a three game series with the Bulldogs. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
