The DBU Patriots defeated the Bulldogs from Louisiana Tech by the score of 9-4 on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field. With the victory, the Patriots improved to 15-7 on the season, after sweeping the three game series against Louisiana Tech.
Senior Chris McMullen picked up the win, improving to 4-1 on the season, after pitching three shutout innings without allowing a hit and striking out two.
The Bulldogs struck first, scoring three runs in the second inning on a three-run homerun by Clint Ewing off of Freshman Ben Palmer.
DBU responded with five runs in the top of the fourth. Junior Austin Knight reached on a bunt single to start the inning, followed by consecutive walks by Juniors Ryan Enos and Travis Meiners. Junior Ryan Goins also drew a bases loaded walk to score Knight and Junior Ryan Thompson added a two RBI single. Senior Trevor Head followed with a RBI sacrifice fly and Sophomore Chris Haney hit a RBI single to make the score 5-3.
The Patriots added another run in the fifth inning, after Haney reached on an error and advanced to second on a single by Sophomore Jason Krizan. Knight scored Haney on a RBI single to right to push the lead to 6-3.
Thompson doubled to start the sixth inning and scored on a two-run homerun by Head. Haney followed with a double and Krizan walked to set up another infield bunt by Knight. With the bases loaded, Senior Clay Kelly hit a sacrifice fly to score Haney, increasing the DBU lead to 9-3.
Louisiana Tech pushed across one run in the seventh inning off of Junior Michael Lacourse to make the score 9-4.
DBU is back in action on Tuesday night at Patriot Field when they take on Sam Houston State University at 6:30.
