The DBU Patriots Sweep Series With Big Offensive Performances

The DBU Patriots improved to 8-3 on the season as they swept the Oakland University Grizzlies finishing off the three game series on Saturday winning both games in the doubleheader at Patriot Field. DBU won the first game 16-6 and defeated Oakland in the second game, 13-2.

In game one, starting pitcher Chris McMullen picked up the win improving his record to 3-0. He pitched six innings allowing five earned runs on seven hits.

Junior Jeremy Parrish added one inning in relief allowing only one run on two hits.

Leading the Patriots at the plate in game one was Senior Brandon Bantz, and Sophomore Jason Krizan, as both went 4 for 4. Bantz finished with two homeruns, one double, one single and five RBI. Krizan had one homerun, one double, two singles, and five RBI.

The Patriots started early in game one, as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Jason Krizan hit a three RBI double to right center to score Junior Austin Knight, Junior Ryan Goins, and Senior Trevor Head, after two walks and a Knight double. Then Freshman Ryan Behmanesh pushed Krizan across as he hit a RBI double and Senior Brandon Bantz added an RBI double of his own scoring Behmanesh to grab the lead, 5-0.

In the second inning the Patriots extended their lead scoring one run off a RBI single from Junior Ryan Enos scoring Knight on the play.

The Grizzlies managed four runs off McMullen in the third inning to leave the score, 6-4.

The Patriots answered in the bottom of the third with four runs to extend their lead to 10-4 as Bantz and Enos both hit an RBI single and Senior Clay Kelly hit a two RBI single also scoring Krizan and Behmanesh on the play.

Krizan crushed a two run homer scoring Head, who walked, and then Bantz hit a laser that just cleared the wall for his first homerun of the year to extend the lead, 13-4.

The Grizzlies managed one run off McMullen in the top of the sixth. Then Bantz hit his second homerun of the game for the Patriots scoring two. Junior Ryan Thompson added a solo homerun to center field extended the Patriot lead, 16-5.

The Patriots finished off the Grizzlies in game one, 16-6, as Parrish allowed only one run in one inning of relief.

In game two, starting pitcher Ryan Millard picked up the win moving to 1-1 on the season pitching

The Patriots were led at the plate in the second game by Behmanesh who finished with one double and four singles hitting 5 for 5 in the win.

The Patriots did not waste any time getting on the board in game two. Junior Ryan Thompson came across the plate on a SAC fly in the bottom of the second inning to put one on the board for the Patriots. Behmanesh and Junior Ryan Enos both reached on singles to set up for a Knight two RBI single.

In the third inning, the Patriots added another after as a SAC fly scored Thompson, who reached on a double.

Enos led off the fourth inning with a solo homerun, and then Goins belted a two run shot over the outfield wall scoring Knight who reached on a wild pitch.

The Grizzlies managed to put up one run on Millard in the sixth.

Then in the bottom of the seventh, Kelly knocked in Behmanesh on a RBI double, then Knight scored off a Goins single to give the Patriots the lead, 9-1.

Haney hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the eighth over the left field fence scoring Behmanesh as the Patriots finished off the Grizzlies with a RBI single up the middle from Sophomore Marcellous Biggins, 13-2.

Freshman Ben Palmer pitched one scoreless inning in relief, and Junior Michael LaCourse finished out the game pitching one inning allowing only one run as the Patriots captured their second victory of the day, 13-2.

The Patriots are back in action at Patriot Field on Tuesday, March 10, when they welcome the University of Central Arkansas to campus. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
