Patriots Drop Second Straight to Huskies

The Dallas Baptist University Patriots Baseball Team fell to 22-10 for the season on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field, after dropping their second straight game to Northeastern University. The Huskies defeated the Patriots by a score of 7-4.

Starting pitcher for the Patriots Junior Victor Black was stuck with the loss moving him to 5-2 on the season. Black pitched five and one third innings allowing five runs, two earned and three unearned, on nine hits, while striking out one. Freshman Michael Smith pitched two and two thirds innings in relief allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two Husky batters. Sophomore Jared Stafford stepped in and finished out the game for DBU, pitching one scoreless inning while striking out one.

The Huskies opened up the scoring early putting up a single run on the board in the top of the first inning when Mike Tamsin hit a single to right field to score Matt Miller, who reached on a single.

The Patriots answered with one run of their own in the bottom of the first inning when Junior Ryan Goins smashed a solo homerun over the wall in right center, leaving the score, 1-1.

After a scoreless second inning, the Huskies added two more runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead, before the Patriots responded with one run in the bottom of the third leaving the score, 3-2. Junior Austin Knight reached on a single to left field and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Senior Clay Kelly. Junior Travis Meiners then singled to left field, scoring Knight on the play.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Huskies managed to score four runs to extend their lead to 7-2.

The Patriots were held scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning when they were able to rally to put two runs on the board. Krizan led off the inning with a single to left field. Junior Ryan Thompson followed with a single to center field before Knight walked to load the bases for Kelly. Kelly hit a RBI single to left field to score Krizan. The second run of the inning came from a Junior Ryan Enos single to center field which scored Thompson on the play.

The Huskies held off the Patriot attack in the bottom of the ninth inning to grab their second straight victory against the Patriots at Patriot Field. The Huskies improved to 17-11 on the year defeating the Patriots in a score of 7-4.

The Patriots are back in action on Monday, April 13, when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, to take on UT-San Antonio. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
