The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball won the first game of the three game series against Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, by the score of 10-6 on Friday night. With the win, the Patriots improved to 23-11 on the season.

Starter Junior Victor Black pitched six innings, allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out seven.

Sophomore Chris Haney picked up the win pitching three scoreless innings to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Junior Ryan Enos led off the game with a solo homerun to right center field, his 12th of the season, giving DBU the early lead.

The Patriots added to their lead in the fourth inning on a three run homerun by Senior Clay Kelly, scoring Senior Brandon Bantz, who singled, and Junior Austin Knight, who walked, giving DBU a 4-0 advantage.

The Wolverines scored two unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning, after a UVU batter was hit by a pitch and the following batter drew a walk. Both runners scored on a Patriot throwing error to leave the score 4-2.

DBU responded with a run of their own in the top of the fifth, after Junior Ryan Goins singled and advanced to second on an error. He advanced to third on a fly out by Junior Ryan Thompson and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Senior Trevor Head, increasing the lead to 5-2.

UVU got the first hit off of Black in the fifth inning and managed to close the score to 5-3.

The Patriots added another run in the sixth inning after Knight singled to start the inning and later scored on a RBI single by Enos, leaving the score 6-3.

The Wolverines hit a solo homerun in the bottom half of the inning, making it a two run game once again.

UVU tied the game in the seventh inning, after leadoff runner reached on an error, which set up a two run homerun, tying the game at 6-6 and chasing Black from the game.

DBU regained the lead in the eighth inning after Krizan and Thompson walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Bantz. Krizan scored on a sacrifice fly by Knight, giving DBU the lead 7-6.

Enos lead off the ninth inning, with his second solo homerun of the game and his 13th of the season. Junior Travis Meiners singled and Goins followed with a two run homerun to right field, his 12th on the year, increasing the Patriot lead to 10-6.

The Patriots and Wolverines are back in action tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 MST.
