The Dallas Baptist University Patriots Baseball Team improved to 29-11 on Saturday afternoon as they completed the series sweep, defeating the University of Northern Colorado Bears by the score of 13-2.
Starting pitcher Junior Chris Mcmullen picked up the win improving to 6-2 on the season. McMullen pitched six scoreless innings allowing only three hits and striking out three batters. Junior Michael LaCourse pitched in relief allowing two runs on one hit, while Sophomore Chris Haney added two scoreless innings allowing no hits. Freshman Ryan Behmanesh stepped in and finished off the Bears pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Leading the Patriots at the plate was Sophomore Jason Krizan who went 3 for 5 in the win, hitting one homerun, one double, and one single adding four RBI.
The Patriots opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning scoring five runs to take an early 5-0 lead. Junior Ryan Enos singled through the right side to reach base to lead off the inning. Junior Ryan Goins reached on a Bears error, advancing Enos to second. Sophomore Jason Krizan reached on a single to right field advancing the runners and scoring Enos. Goins crossed the plate on a RBI ground out by Junior Ryan Thompson. Then Senior Brandon Bantz crushed a two run homerun, his eighth of the season, over the center field wall, scoring Krizan on the play. Junior Austin Knight singled to right field before Senior Trevor Head walked to leave runners on first and second. The runners advanced on a Bears wild pitch, and then Freshman Landon Anderson hit a RBI single to score Knight for the fifth run of the inning, leaving the score, 5-0.
In the bottom of the second inning, Junior Travis Meiners walked to reach base before advancing to third on a Krizan double to right field. Thompson reached on a fielder's choice, which pushed Meiners across the plate to extend the Patriot lead, 6-0.
The Patriots added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored 2 runs. Goins belted a two run homerun, his 17th of the season, scoring Enos who reached on a Bears error leaving the score, 8-0.
The Bears managed to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning off of LaCourse.
DBU answered in the bottom of the eighth inning as they added five runs to their lead to finish off the Bears by the score of 13-2. Enos walked to reach base, then advanced to second on a Meiners single through the left side. Goins smashed a RBI double to left center field to score Enos on the play. Krizan stepped to the plate and hit a three run homerun scoring Goins and Meiners. Thompson added a solo homerun for the fifth run of the inning.
Behmanesh pitched a scoreless ninth inning to end the game, 13-2.
The Patriots are back in on Monday, April 25, as they travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, to take on Stephen F. Austin University. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
