The Dallas Baptist University Patriots Baseball Team fell to 35-15 for the season on Monday night as they were defeated by the TCU Horned Frogs by the score of 5-3. With the win, TCU improved their season record to 32-14.
Starting pitcher Junior Victor Black was stuck with the loss dropping his record to 6-3 for the year. Black pitched seven innings allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out six Horned Frog batters. Sophomore Chris Haney finished out the game as he stepped in and pitched two scoreless innings, striking out one.
TCU opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning as they put a single run on the board to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Patriots could not stop the bleeding as the Horned Frogs jumped to a 5-0 lead scratching a single run across the plate in each of the second, third, fourth, and sixth innings.
DBU was scoreless through five innings, then in the bottom of the sixth Sophomore Jason Krizan reached base on a single to left field before advancing to third base on a Senior Brandon Bantz double. Junior Ryan Thompson stepped up to the plate and belted a two RBI double to left field, scoring both Krizan and Bantz on the play. Thompson then was pushed across the plate for the third run of the inning on a Junior Austin Knight RBI single to center field to leave the score, 5-3.
The Patriots offense could not get the bats going against the Horned Frogs relief pitching as DBU fell to TCU by the score of 5-3.
The Patriots are back in action at Patriot Field tomorrow afternoon as they welcome UT-San Antonio to campus. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
