DBU Defeats Dolphins 7-2

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball team improved to 38-15 on the season, with a 7-2 victory on the road Friday night against the Dolphins from Jacksonville University.  In route to the win, the Patriots pounded out their 100th homerun of the season, which is a DBU Division I record. 

Junior Ryan Millard picked up the victory pitching five and two thirds innings, allowing two runs, while scattering six hits and improving to 7-2 on the season. 

Sophomore Chris Haney held the Dolphin batters at bay the remainder of the evening, allowing only one hit over the course of three and a third innings, notching his seventh save of the season and securing the win for the Patriots. 

Leading the Patriots at the plate were Junior Travis Meiners and Ryan Goins.  Meiners finished the night three for five with two RBI and Goins added four RBI on two for five from the plate. 

DBU got on the board in the third inning, pushing four runs across the plate.  Senior Clay Kelly tripled and Junior Ryan Enos walked.  Meiners added a RBI single, scoring Kelly, which set up a three run homerun by Goins, to give the Patriots a 4-0 lead.

JU responded with their only two runs of the game in the bottom half of the inning on a single and a two run homerun, leaving the score 4-2. 

DBU added another run in the fifth inning, after Enos reached first after being hit by a pitch and then stole second.  Goins followed with a RBI double, scoring Enos and making the score 5-2. 

The Patriots struck again in the sixth inning, after Junior Austin Knight singled to left center.  Senior Trevor Head reached on a fielding error, moving Knight to third, which set up another Dolphin error on a RBI ground ball by Kelly.  Meiners followed with a RBI double to push the lead to 7-2. 

DBU is back in action on Saturday afternoon when the take on Jacksonville for the third and final game of the series at 12:00 EST in Jacksonville, Florida.
