The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball team fell to the Dolphins from Jacksonville University by the score of 13-3 on Saturday afternoon on the campus of JU. Despite the loss, the Patriots still win the series after winning the first two games on Thursday and Friday. With the loss DBU falls to 38-16 on the season, while the Dolphins improve to 34-20.
Senior Chris McMullen was stuck with the loss, falling to 7-4 on the season, pitching three and two thirds innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits.
Leading the Patriots at the plate was Junior Ryan Thompson, who went two for four with two triples and a RBI and senior Clay Kelly, who also added two hits in the game. The Patriots managed 10 hits in the contest, but left eight runners on base.
JU got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, scoring one run on a sacrifice fly.
DBU added their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning, after Sophomore Jason Krizan singled and scored on a RBI triple by Thompson.
The Dolphins responded to retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring eight runs on seven hits, and chasing McMullen from the game. JU added another run in the fifth inning, leaving the score 10-2.
Junior Ryan Goins hit his 22nd homerun of the season in the sixth inning, to close the score to 10-3, but the Dolphins added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
DBU added their third and final run of the game in the seventh, after Senior Trevor Head reached on an error and moved to second a single by Kelly. Junior Ryan Enos followed with a RBI single, scoring Head, to make the score 12-3.
Jacksonville scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh to push the score to 13-3, which would end up being the final run scored of the game.
The Patriots will be back in action for their regular season finale on Monday afternoon at 3:00 when they welcome Oral Roberts to Patriot Field.
