Patriots Close Out Regular Season With Loss to Golden Eagles

The Dallas Baptist University Patriots Baseball team fell to 38-17, after a loss to Oral Roberts University on Monday afternoon at Patriot Field by the score of 14-8.


Starting pitcher Junior Victor Black allowed five runs on eight hits through four and one third innings, while striking out eight. Freshman Michael Smith pitched four innings in relief allowing one run on three hits and striking out one. Freshman Ryan Behmanesh and Sophomore Chris Haney combine for two innings, with Behmanesh allowing four runs on three hits and Haney giving up four runs on four hits.

The Patriots took an early lead over the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the second inning when Senior Trevor Head smashed a two RBI double down the left field line, scoring Senior Brandon Bantz and Junior Ryan Thompson after reaching on a pair of singles.

The Golden Eagles responded with four runs in the top of the third inning and one run in the fourth off of Black, to take the lead from DBU, 5-2.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, DBU added a single run when Junior Austin Knight crossed the plate on a Junior Travis Meiners single through the left side of the infield.

The Patriots rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning to score one run. Sophomore Jason Krizan led off the inning with a double to left field then advanced to third on a single on a Thompson single through the right side. Knight reached on a walk to load the bases, then Krizan was able to score on a wild pitch to leave the score 5-4.

The Golden Eagles extended their lead in the top of the eighth inning as they scored five runs to leave the score, 10-4.

The Patriots responded in the bottom of the eighth inning as they pushed four runs across, leaving the score, 10-8. Knight singled to lead off the inning, then Head crushed a two run homerun over the left field wall, his 13th of the season. The two run shot tied Head for the lead in the DBU overall career homerun record with 45 through four seasons with the Patriots. Junior Ryan Enos and Meiners each reached on a single, and then were pushed across the plate on a Junior Ryan Goins two RBI double to left center field.

The Golden Eagles finished off the Patriots in the top of the ninth inning as they scored four runs ending the game with a grand slam for a final score of 14-8.

The Patriots have concluded regular season with a record of 38-17. DBU now awaits the announcement of the 2009 Regional Selections to see if they can make it to a regional for the second straight year. The tournament field is scheduled to be released on Monday, May 25, 2009.
