The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball Team lost their second game in as many days, Saturday afternoon, in Beaumont, Texas. Playing their third game of the YMBL Classic Tournament, the Patriots lost 10-4 to the Penn State Nittany Lions, and with the loss, drop to 7-4 on the season.
The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, after Junior
Tyler Robbins reached on a single and later scored on a Penn State fielding error.
The Patriot lead didn't last long, as Penn State scored seven runs in the top of the second, chasing DBU Freshman Pitcher
Stuart Pudenz from the game. The Nittany Lions strung together an assortment of plays in the inning including three singles, two walks, a double, a triple, and a homerun down the right field line by Jordan Steranka, for the 7-1 lead.
After three scoreless innings, the Patriots added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Senior
Ryan Enos drew a walk, and advanced to second on a Robbins single. Junior
Jason Krizan flied out to center field, moving Enos to third. Enos later scored on a wild pitch to make it a 7-2 game.
Each team added a run in the seventh to make it an 8-3 game. Mario Eramo homered for the Nittany Lions, and Freshman
Duncan McAlpine hit a RBI single for the Patriots to score Enos who had reached on a walk.
Penn State tacked on two more runs on one hit in the top of the eighth. The DBU rally fell short in the bottom of the ninth as they were only able to score one, falling 10-4.
Pudenz received his first loss of the season after giving up four hits, six runs, and striking out one. Robbins ended the tournament batting .692, with nine hits and four runs to lead the Patriots.
The Patriots will return to Dallas for a home contest against the University of Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 9, at Patriot Field. The first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
