Patriots Drop Game Two Against Wichita State

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team dropped to 28-26 on the season after a 10-6, game two, loss against Wichita State on Friday evening.

Senior Pitcher Ryan Millard picked up the loss for the Patriots, after allowing six earned runs on eight hits, in five and one third innings pitched.

Leading the Patriots on offense was Junior Tyler Robbins who went two for four with a double, one RBI, and one run scored.

Wichita State got out to an early lead as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but only two of those were earned, coming off a two run homerun.

The Patriots responded in the top of the third, putting together a two-out rally to make the score 3-1. Junior Josh Wilson started things off with a single up the middle and Senior Austin Knight followed with a single through the right side to put two runners on base. Robbins then stepped up to the plate and delivered a single through the left side that scored Wilson.

The Shockers would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off a two- run double by Cody Lassley to increase their lead to 5-1.

DBU would respond quickly in the top of the sixth inning with four runs to tie the game at 5-5. Knight started the inning with a single to right center and advanced to third on a double down the left field line by Robbins. Senior Ryan Enos hit a line drive up the middle to score both runners, making the score 5-3. With two outs in the inning, Freshman Duncan McAlpine stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run homerun to left center, his 13th of the year, to tie the game.

WSU answered the Patriot rally with a three-run homerun of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning and would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 10-5.

The Patriots looked to make things interesting in the top of the ninth as Sophomore Landon Anderson hit a one out double down the left field line, and later scored on a double by Freshman Austin Elkins to make the score 10-6, but Wichita State pitcher Cobey Guy got the final two outs to end the game.

The Patriots will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against the Shockers for the final game of the series. Game time is set for 2:05 pm.
