Patriots Suffer 13-2 Loss to UT-Arlington

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team suffered a 13-2 loss to UT-Arlington Friday evening at Patriot Field, dropping the Patriots to 7-3 overall on the season.

Sophomore Aaron Gilbreath was dealt the loss for the Patriots as he pitched four and a third innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, courtesy of a RBI single by Preston Beck. His ribbie scored Ryan Walker who had reached on a walk.

After a scoreless fourth, the UTA bats went back to work in the fifth, as they tallied three doubles that yielded five runs.

Still holding a 6-0 lead through five, the Maverick's Michael Guerra blasted a two-run homerun in the sixth to give UTA an 8-0 lead. After tacking on another three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, UTA held a staggering 13-0 lead thanks to 17 hits.

The Patriots finally got on the board in the bottom half of the eighth courtesy of Sophomore Duncan McAlpine's lead-off homerun. Four batters and one out later, Sophomore Ryan Behmanesh pushed Senior Tyler Robbins across the plate with a sacrifice fly to right field, cutting the DBU deficit to 11.

That was as close as DBU would come, however, as the Maverick's Mark Picca came on in the ninth and made quick work of the Patriot batters. Picca retired three of the four batters he faced, allowing only a single by Freshman Michael Miller, and sealing the 13-2 win.

DBU will face Wichita State in the final game of the DBU Invitational tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m.
