Patriots Sweep 49ers for Seventh Straight Win

Box Score

Five players recorded multi-hit games on Saturday afternoon in Charlotte, NC as the DBU Patriots (13-6) picked up their seventh straight win with an 8-3 victory over UNC-Charlotte (10-10). Charlotte, a regional participant in 2011, has now lost seven of their last eight as Jordan Staples (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Andrew Elkins, who went four innings and allowed one run in his second start of the season after pitching exclusively out of the bullpen to begin the year.

DBU opened the game with three runs in the first as RJ Talamantes led off the game by being hit by a pitch and later scored the first run of the game. DBU chased 49er starter Corey Roberts after only 2.2 innings. He was charged with five runs, four of which were earned.

Charlotte got a run back in the second as Corbin Shive snuck a home run around the left field foul pole but the Patriots answered that run with two of their own in the third. Landon Anderson was hit by a pitch and scored on a Duncan McAlpine double and then Michael Miller scored McAlpine with two outs as he singled through the left side. Austin Elkins would homer to lead off the fourth and increase the Patriot lead to 6-1 and they would cruise from there as Tyler Rockafellow, Staples, Miller, and Michael Smith would combine to allow only two more runs on the afternoon and continue the run of dominance on the mound for the Patriots.

Talamantes, Elkins, Boomer Collins, McAlpine and Miller all collected two hits on the day while Anderson and Kenny Hatcher had the other two in the 12 hit Patriot attack.

DBU returns home Tuesday night as they play host to cross-town opponent UT-Arlington at 6:30.
