The DBU Pitching Staff recorded back-to-back shutouts on Good Friday as the Patriots (20-9) swept a double header from Prairie View A&M, 11-0 and 7-0.
Cy Sneed (5-2) pitched six innings to begin the scoreless stretch and pick up the win in a run-rule shortened Game 1.
Tyler Rockafellow threw the seventh and allowed one hit and two walks.
Taylor Massey (5-2) matched Sneed with six innings of his own before giving way to
Jake Johansen, who picked up his first save of the season with a three-inning effort.
The Patriots scored seven runs in the first two innings of Game 1, all off starter Michael Listi. They extended that lead with three more in the fourth and the final margin of victory came with another run in the sixth.
Austin Elkins and
Landon Anderson each picked up a double in the game while Anderson also homered, as did
Boomer Collins. Anderson, who had four RBI, and Elkins finished with three hits apiece.
In Game 2, the Patriots again jumped out to an early lead when they scored twice in the opening frame. They would score three more in the third - but would not add another run until the seventh inning when Collins hit his second homerun of the day.
Jaime Garrido would follow in the eighth inning with his first Division I homerun to add the final margin of victory.
Ronnie Mitchell and
Michael Miller each recorded one hit in the night cap while every other hitter in the lineup had multiple hit games. In all, DBU would record 16 hits in Game 2 and 30 for the day.
The doubleheader sweep gives the Patriots their sixth straight series win as they look to sweep the series Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
Andrew Elkins will toe the rubber for DBU against Stef Hernandez for Prairie View. The game will be broadcast on the Patriot Broadcasting Network with the Pregame Show beginning at 12:40 pm.
