Baseball Falls to Seattle, 7-2

Box Score

Trying to secure a series win at Horner Ballpark Friday afternoon, the Dallas Baptist Patriots (19-16, 6-5) fell to Seattle University (12-21, 3-7) by a score of 7-2. Cy Sneed (2-2) was saddled with the loss after throwing only 2.2 innings while lefthander Garrett Anderson (2-5) picked up the win with 7.2 innings of work. Blake Webster and Aaron Gilbreath combined to finish the game for DBU with the only run allowed off the duo coming on a solo homerun off Gilbreath in the seventh inning.

For the Patriots, the hits were few and far between off Anderson with Ronnie Mitchell recording the only multi-hit day. Michael Miller and Nash Knight picked up the only extra-base hits for DBU with doubles in a game that took two hours and eight minutes to complete.

Seattle scored four runs in the second inning off Sneed after loading the bases with nobody out. Sneed tried to minimize the damage in that inning, recording two outs while allowing only one run to score but a three-run homerun by Nate Roberts before the end of the inning would prove to be a decisive blow in the contest. The Redhawks would add two more runs off the starter before he was lifted with tightness in his upper back. Webster came on in relief and threw 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball before Gilbreath closed out the game with four innings and one strikeout. His only blemish came on the homerun with nobody on base.

DBU was only able to pick up six hits on the day to go along with one walk in scoring their two runs. The Patriots and Redhawks will meet again on Saturday at noon to decide the winner of the three-game series. Cody Beam will take the mound for the Patriots at Horner Ballpark. The Patriot Pregame Show will begin at 11:35 am on the Patriot Broadcasting Network (dbupatriots.com/showcase).
