Not Much Goes Right for DBU in Loss

Box Score

Dallas Baptist (22-22, 9-9) and starting pitcher, Cody Beam, fell behind early against UT-San Antonio (24-19, 8-9) in Sunday's rubber match at Horner Ballpark and the Patriot offense was not able to strike until the ninth inning, when it was too late. The Roadrunners held on for a 7-2 win with the only Patriot runs coming on a double in the ninth by Austin Listi followed by the first career homerun from Mike Wesolowski.  Beam (3-1) was handed his first loss of the season and UTSA starter Michael Kraft (3-5) picked up his third win of the season, tossing seven innings of two-hit baseball.

UTSA scored four runs on five hits in the third inning off Beam with the big blow a three run triple to leftfield from Daniel Rockett. In the fifth, off a combination of Beam and reliever Jay Calhoun, the Roadrunners swatted a double, a triple, and a homerun in the inning to increase their lead to 7-0 - where the score remained until the ninth.

Listi's double in the ninth was only the fifth hit of the game for DBU and it came as Logan Onda was on to pitch for Kraft. Wesolowski followed with the homerun to left. That would do it for the Patriots as Jordan Pacheco came in to record the final out of the game. Wesolowski picked up the only multi-hit game for DBU and Michael Miller extended his reached-base streak with a triple and a walk. Brandon Koch, Cory Taylor and Paul Voelker all threw scoreless relief outings with Taylor throwing two innings and allowing only one hit while striking out four.

The Patriots will host Oklahoma on Tuesday as the Sooners make their first visit to Horner Ballpark. First pitch is set for 6:30 with a 6:05 Pregame Show on the Patriot Broadcasting Network (dbupatriots.com/showcase).
