Patriots End Regular Season With Series Loss

Box Score

Duncan McAlpine continued to rewrite the Dallas Baptist (28-28, 13-14) record books on Saturday afternoon as the senior belted two more homeruns but his efforts were not enough as Texas State (27-28, 16-11) scored six runs in the sixth inning to run away with the final game of the regular season, and the three game series, 12-8. DBU held leads of 2-0, 4-3, 7-6 and 8-6 but the Bobcats continued to battle back until the decisive sixth inning as Paul Voelker (0-2) took his second loss of the season, allowing six runs in 1.1 inning of work. Cody Beam, the Patriot starter, lasted only three innings and gave up four runs on five hits and two walks before being replaced by Blake Webster, who allowed two runs in his inning on the mound. The only Patriot pitcher to not give up a run was Cory Taylor, who threw the final 2.2 innings for DBU and gave up three hits and two walks.

The Patriot offense tried their best to keep the Patriots in the lead as they battled back from Bobcat rallies throughout the game but, in the end, their twelve hits and fifteen baserunners were not enough. McAlpine once again led the attack with three hits as he slammed two more homeruns, numbers forty-seven and forty-eight in his career, and also looped a two-run double in the second inning. Ronnie Mitchell also homered, his first leadoff homerun in his DBU career, and later singled. Chane Lynch went three for three with a single, double and triple and drove in a run.

The Patriots will now turn their attention to the Western Athletic Conference Tournament which begins on Wednesday, May 22, at QuickTrip Park in Grand Prairie. Dallas Baptist will enter the tournament as the seventh seed and will likely face UT-Arlington in the opening game. The time is yet to be determined but updates will be available on twitter @DBU_Baseball and on this website, dbupatriots.com.
