THE RUNDOWNThe Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team survived a showdown in Denton, Texas, knocking off Texas Woman's University 1-0 on Saturday night. DBU (6-3-1) finishes its non-conference portion of the schedule 6-2-1 and has won four contests in a row on the road.
Â
It was a back and forth opening half for both squads, with neither getting many scoring chances. Junior
Emilie MacDonald punched her team-tying best fourth goal of the season into the net in the early stages of the affair, and would be enough to be the difference.
Â
The offense for both sides increased in the later portion of the first frame, as the Patriots held a narrow 8-7 shooting edge. They also boasted a 5-2 shot on goal advantage, and were ahead 1-0 at halftime.
Â
In the second stanza, DBU and the Pioneers had a couple scoring chances, but limited each other to five shots apiece. Things held up for the Patriots, as they won their fourth 1-0 decision this year.
Â
Pacing the team in shots was junior
Ashley Cox with six total, and two on goal. The Midlothian, Texas, native, was the lone player to put multiple shots on the target. Fellow classmate
Lindsey Eccles also had a multi-shot affair with two and one on goal.
Â
Redshirt junior
Dixie Kurrus, junior
Jolee Patterson, freshman
Leah Draper, and MacDonald all went one-for-one displaying a percent Shot on goal percentage.
Â
HIGHLIGHTS MacDonald's third game-winner of the campaign occurred at the 14:32 mark with the native of Cedar Hill, Texas, completing a shot to the lower-right corner of the net.
Â
Ashley Cox, who MacDonald shot matched with for the team lead in goals, tallied the assist on the scoring sequence.
Â
Out of the break, the first ten minutes didn't feature any chances for either team. Each saw a decrease in shooting this half, with the Patriots applying pressure first before not taking another shot beyond the 70:23 minute mark.
Â
Senior
Kerry Edwards (6-3-1) had a major part in the triumph, pitching her sixth shutout of the campaign. The native of McKinney, Texas, had four critical saves, and also guided a Patriot defense that prevented TWU from finding the back of the net despite a late push in the match.
