Patriots Fall in 15 Innings at TCU

Box Score

It took five hours and twenty-nine minutes and 15 innings of baseball before Dallas Baptist fell at No. 21 TCU, 5-4, on Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium.  On a night in which temperatures dipped into the high 30's,the Patriots and Horned Frogs played past the midnight hour and into early Wednesday morning before a throwing error led to a TCU win in the bottom of the 15th.

Tied at four apiece in the Horned Frogs half of the 15th, Kyle Bacak reached on a fielding error by Camden Duzenack to lead-off the inning.  After Bacak reached second on a fielders choice, TCU's, Boomer White, laced a ground ball to Nash Knight at third.  Knight's throw sailed wide of first base, allowing Bacak to score the winning run.  It marks the first one-run loss of the 2014 season for DBU (9-3), after going 3-0 in one-run games last week.

Down 3-0 through the first four innings, the Patriots exploded for four runs in the sixth, headlined by an Austin Listi two-run homer that pulled DBU to within one.  Daniel Salters followed with a single and would advance to third after Justin Wall ripped a single to right.  TCU reliever, Trey Teakell's pick-off attempt of Wall at first was off target and went to the wall allowing Salters to score.  Wall would come home to score the go-ahead run when Teakell threw a wild pitch to KJ Alexander.

TCU (8-4), tied the game at four when Boomer White laced a double past Knight at third in the bottom of the ninth with two outs off Patriot closer, Joseph Shaw.

After Shaw departed the game in the 11th, Cory Taylor came out of the pen to pitch four scoreless innings.  Taylor averted a bases loaded jam in the 13th with the bases loaded and nobody out, inducing a pop-up and then getting a ground ball double-play.

Trevor Conn came on in the 15th for the Patriots and recorded two outs before the game ended on an error.

The loss erases a four-game win streak at Lupton Stadium for DBU and is the first loss on the road at TCU since February 24, 2009.

DBU returns to Horner Ballpark on Thursday night for game one of a three-game series versus Oral Roberts.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
