THE RUNDOWN In their second game of the day and third and final game of the A&M-Commerce Classic, the DBU Volleyball team were able to complete a five-set win versus host team Texas A&M-Commerce. Krystal Wunderlich had a team high 26 kills, while Kaycie Bird had a match high 64 assists. Tadam Mergener also had a match high 34 digs . The Lady Patriots improved their record to 3-4.
The first match of the evening started off with the score remaining tight between the Lions and Lady Patriots as they fought back and forth. As the set reached a 21-21 tie, TAMUC would score only once more before DBU would go on a four point run to take the first set 25-22.
The Lions would answer back in the second set as they would go on multiple three point runs to down the Lady Patriots 25-16. The momentum from the second set would carry over into the third as the Lions would pull out a close set win by the score of 25-23.
With TAMUC looking to close out the match and DBU having their backs against the wall down 2-1 in the match, the third set would prove to be thrilling. Both teams would keep the score relatively close in the early goings, until late in the set the Lions would go on a six point streak to take the lead and potential game point 24-22. Despite facing set point DBU would push the set into extra play and score the next five of six points winning the set 27-25, forcing a fifth set.
The Lady Patriots scored early and often in the fifth set jumping out to a 9-2 lead. The dominance of the set would continue as DBU won the set 15-10 and closed out the A&M-Commerce Classic with a win.
