In the opening set, the Hilltoppers jumped out to a 3-1 lead, before the Lady Patriots answered with back-to-back points to tie the set 3-3. St. Edward's would retake the lead and have DBU trail for the majority of play, with the Lady Patriots continuously closing in. With the score tied at 19 apiece, DBU took advantage of an SEU attack error to go ahead 20-19, before a two point streak put the Hiltoppers back in front 21-20. The Lady Patriots locked down defensively and didn't allow SEU to score again, which opened the way for a
Jenna Elkins kill to start a five point outburst to claim the set, 25-21 and go up 1-0 in the match.
The second set of the afternoon saw both teams scoring in bunches putting together big point streaks of three and four scores. Down 17-13 heading into the back end of the set, DBU ripped off a five point rally capped off by a
Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick kill that put the Lady Patriots up 18-17. As the set progressed both team would battle to a 23-23 tie, before kills by the Hilltoppers sealed the second set 25-23, and tie the match 1-1.
DBU fell behind early in the third set, but made up the points to go ahead 6-5, after a
Carly Hess kill and SEU attack error. The Hilltoppers went on to score five of the next six points to take a 10-7 advantage. St. Edward's wouldn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the set winning 25-21, going up 2-1 in the match.
Late into the fourth set hoping to push for a fifth, the Lady Patriots took a 19-18 lead. With the help of errors from SEU, DBU went point for point with the Hilltoppers with a Hess kill bringing the score to 22-22. That would be the Lady Patriots final score as St. Edward's went on to notch the final three points and take the fourth set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
